General Information

What is Casambi Pro?

Casambi Pro is a suite of tools designed to streamline the planning, configuration, and commissioning of wireless Casambi lighting networks.

The Vision
Casambi Pro provides lighting professionals with a modern, scalable workflow that makes scenario configuration and on-site commissioning visual, agile, and straightforward.

Target Audience
The initial release is tailored specifically for lighting specifiers and commissioning engineers. It is not intended for end-user daily control.

Platform Differences
Casambi Pro is split across two platforms to support different project phases:

  • Casambi Pro for Windows: Focuses on offline project setup, layout planning, and configuration.
  • Casambi Pro for iPad (iOS): Used primarily on-site during commissioning to pair, configure, and unpair Casambi-enabled Bluetooth devices.
Does Casambi Pro have all the features of the Casambi App?

No. Casambi Pro is primarily designed for medium to large-scale projects where floor plans are essential to the configuration design. Rather than replicating every feature of the standard Casambi App, future updates to Casambi Pro will focus on tools that specifically support this project scale.

The standard Casambi App will continue to co-exist as an alternative option for configuring Casambi networks.

Our development philosophy for Casambi Pro is to expand Casambi Pro with features based on user feedback and real-world needs. Because of this, some Casambi App features may never be added to Pro, while Pro will gain exclusive features that will not be available in the standard app.

Who is Casambi Pro intended for?

Casambi Pro is designed for lighting designers, system integrators, electrical engineers, and commissioning professionals who plan and deploy Casambi-enabled installations.

It does not replace the standard Casambi App, but serves as a dedicated tool for:

  • Mid to Large-scale commercial and architectural projects.
  • Facilities with repeated structures (e.g., multi-floor offices, hotels, school classrooms).
  • Projects that require extensive offline pre-configuration before on-site commissioning.
Is Casambi Pro replacing the standard Casambi App?

No. Casambi Pro does not replace the standard Casambi App; both co-exist to serve different project scales and workflows.

  • Casambi Pro: Dedicated to planning, pre-configuring, and commissioning large, structured, or automated commercial installations with minimal requirements for day-to-day manual user interaction.
  • Casambi App: Continues to be the primary tool for live on-site setup, dynamic scene adjustments, and everyday end-user lighting control.
Is Casambi Pro suitable for outdoor projects?

Yes, Casambi Pro can be used in both indoor and outdoor projects.

How much does Casambi Pro cost?

Casambi Pro is free to download and use.

Will Casambi Pro be available in languages other than English?

Currently, Casambi Pro is available only in English.

Localization into additional languages may be considered for future releases.

System Requirements & Compatibility

Which platforms does Casambi Pro run on?

Casambi Pro runs on Windows 11 and Apple iOS devices:

  • Casambi Pro for Windows: Used for offline planning, floor plan layout, and configuration.
  • Casambi Pro for iOS (iPad / iPhone): Used on-site during commissioning for pairing and unpairing devices.
note

Casambi Pro is not available natively for macOS or Android. However, Mac users can run Casambi Pro for Windows using a virtual machine environment such as Parallels Desktop.

For detailed hardware and operating system specifications, see the Casambi Pro system requirements.

What kind of iPad or iPhone do i need to run Casambi Pro?

Casambi Pro can be installed on any iOS device running iPadOS or iOS version 17.0 or newer. Generally, Pro supports current iOS version plus two older iOS generations. iOS operating systems versions which are older than that are not supported.

To ensure stable performance when handling high-resolution floorplans with big number of overlay elements, the following devices are required as the minimum level (as of September 2026):

iPad Recommendations

  • iPad Air 5th generation (2022, M1 chip) or newer (8 GB RAM)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd Gen, 2020) or newer (6 GB RAM minimum)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th Gen, 2020) or newer (6 GB RAM minimum)
  • iPad Mini: 7th generation or newer (8 GB RAM)

iPhone Recommendations

  • iPhone 14 or higher (6 GB RAM)
  • iPhone 13 Pro or higher (6 GB RAM)

Please note, that on iOS devices, the Casambi Pro interface is optimized for iPad rather than iPhone due to the nature of Pro project content (e.g. large floorplans). A larger screen provides a better user experience. The main difference between the iPad and iPhone versions is that the iPhone version supports pairing self-powered EnOcean devices. This is because iPhones have two-way NFC capability, while iPads do not.

For more information, see the Casambi Pro system requirements page.

What Casambi firmware does the Casambi Pro support?

Casambi Pro supports the standard Casambi Evolution firmware.

Classic firmware is not supported.

Read more about different firmware versions.

Does Casambi Pro support gateways?

Yes. Casambi Pro supports the Casambi Cloud Gateway.

For setup instructions, see the Casambi Cloud Gateway guide.

For broader hardware compatibility, visit the Casambi Pro Device Support page.

Does Casambi Pro support EnOcean devices?

Yes.

However, commissioning EnOcean devices requires Near Field Communication (NFC). Because iPads do not have built-in NFC readers, EnOcean device pairing is only supported when running Casambi Pro on an iPhone.

For detailed information about supported devices, see the Casambi Pro Device Support page.

Is the Casambi DALI Controller supported?

Yes. The Casambi DALI Controller (the Salvador product family) is supported in Casambi Pro.

For setup details and instructions, see the Salvador series documentation.

For a complete list of compatible hardware, visit the Casambi Pro Device Support page.

Can I use the Casambi App to control networks created with Casambi Pro?

Yes, for basic day-to-day end-user control. A network created in Casambi Pro can be opened and controlled using the standard Casambi App.

However, keep the following considerations in mind:

  • Control experience: Due to underlying differences in architecture between the two systems, the control experience in the standard Casambi App may not be optimal.
  • Configuration restrictions: Network configurations, spaces, groups, and device behaviors cannot be modified using the standard Casambi App. All configuration changes must be made in Casambi Pro.

Learn more about controlling a network created in Casambi Pro with the Casambi App in the Casambi Pro User Guide.

Configuration Rule

Never attempt to reconfigure or re-commission devices from a Casambi Pro project using the standard Casambi App. Doing so can cause configuration mismatches and unpredictable network behavior.

Can I change Casambi Pro network configurations with the Casambi App?

No.

You cannot modify configurations of networks created with Casambi Pro using the standard Casambi App. All structural and behavioral changes—such as modifying spaces, groups, scenes, or device parameters—must be performed using Casambi Pro.

Learn more about controlling a Casambi Pro network with the Casambi App in the Casambi Pro User Guide.

Can I use Casambi Pro to control networks created with the Casambi App?

No.

Casambi Pro cannot interact with or control networks created in the standard Casambi App. The two systems use fundamentally different architectures, meaning Casambi Pro can only configure and manage networks that were originally created and commissioned within a Casambi Pro project.

Can existing Casambi App networks be converted into Casambi Pro projects?

No. Due to fundamental differences in data architecture between the standard Casambi App and Casambi Pro, existing Casambi App networks cannot be converted into Casambi Pro projects.

Configuration & Commissioning

Can I pair devices into networks with Casambi Pro?

Yes, but currently only using Casambi Pro for iOS (iPad or iPhone), and only into networks created within Casambi Pro. It is not possible to pair devices into networks created with the standard Casambi App, or vice versa.

In Casambi Pro, networks start as virtual placeholders in the Windows version during offline configuration. These placeholders are then converted into real physical networks on the iPad during on-site commissioning.

1. In Casambi Pro for Windows (Planning):

  1. Create spaces with groups and controllers in your project.
  2. Add scenes and configure the control logic.
  3. Create network placeholder(s).
  4. Assign each space to a network placeholder via the space properties.
  5. Save the project.

2. In Casambi Pro for iPad (Commissioning):

  1. Open the project and navigate to the spaces where you want to pair devices (network placeholders are visible in the Networks pane).
  2. Pair luminaires, switches, or sensors from the Nearby Devices list to the designated spaces and groups.
  3. Once the first device is paired, the network placeholder is automatically converted into a live Casambi network.
What are the elements in a Casambi Pro project?

A Casambi Pro project consists of the following elements:

  • Layouts (floor plans)
  • Spaces and space templates
  • Luminaire groups
  • Controllers (switches, sensors, and schedules)
  • Scenes
  • Circadian profiles
  • Casambi Cloud Gateways
  • Networks

For detailed information about projects, see the Casambi Pro Projects page in the Casambi Pro User Guide.

Which file formats are supported for floor plan images?

Layout images (floor plans) can be imported into Casambi Pro in PDF, PNG, and JPG formats. Other vector formats—such as AI, DWG, DXF, or SVG—are not supported.

File Size and Resolution Limits

  • Bitmap images (PNG, JPG): Maximum file size is 10 MB, with a maximum resolution of 5000 × 5000 px.
  • PDF documents: There is no strict file size limit. Vector PDFs are automatically converted into a bitmap upon import.
Performance Recommendations
  • Avoid maximum limits: While files up to 10 MB and 10,000 × 10,000 px are supported, avoid using the maximum allowed sizes whenever possible, as very large images will degrade application performance.
  • Cropping: Crop large floor plans to include only the essential layout areas to conserve memory.
  • Complex PDFs: Importing highly detailed or multi-page vector PDFs may take several minutes, during which the app UI may appear temporarily unresponsive while rendering the bitmap.
  • Conversion fallback: If a PDF takes too long to import or causes performance issues, convert the page to a reasonably sized PNG (well under 10 MB and below 10,000 × 10,000 px) before importing.
Is there a limit to the number of elements in a Casambi Pro project?

No. Casambi Pro does not impose a strict limit on the number of layouts, spaces, groups, controllers, or networks you can add to a project.

However, please note that having an exceptionally large number of elements in a single project may degrade application performance.

Can I import data from other applications into Casambi Pro?

Currently importing data from other application is not supported.

Can Casambi Pro connect to building management systems?

Currently no, but this kind of functionality is considered at a later phase.

Can Casambi Pro display the live status of networks and their devices?

Yes. Casambi Pro for iOS can display the live status of network devices when your iOS device is within the network's Bluetooth range.

To view a device's current status:

  1. Open the network in Casambi Pro for iOS.
  2. Select a device on the layout to open the properties panel on the right side of the screen; the live status is shown in its properties.

Alternatively, tap a device directly in the Nearby Devices list to inspect its details.

note

Casambi Pro for Windows cannot display live device or network statuses.

Can I create subspaces or nested luminaire groups?

No. Casambi Pro uses a flat structure rather than hierarchical nesting:

  • Spaces: A space can contain only controllers and luminaire groups; you cannot nest a child space inside a parent space. However, spaces can overlap on the layout if you need them positioned over the same area.
  • Groups: A luminaire group cannot contain another group inside it, though luminaire groups can overlap on the layout.
Can a luminaire be part of multiple luminaire groups?

No. In Casambi Pro, every luminaire must belong to exactly one luminaire group. A luminaire cannot be assigned to multiple groups simultaneously.

Can one sensor control multiple luminaire groups?

Yes. You can control multiple luminaire groups with a single sensor by using scenes.

For example, to configure two luminaire groups to dim to different levels when triggered by a sensor:

  1. Create a space containing the two luminaire groups and the sensor.
  2. In the scene table, create a new scene.
  3. Set the desired dimming level for each luminaire group within that scene.
  4. Configure the sensor's control settings to trigger the created scene.
Is it possible to share a project with another person?

Yes, using Casambi Pro for Windows.

A user with the Owner role can invite new members to a project as either an Owner or an Editor:

  1. In Casambi Pro for Windows, open the project, navigate to the Members tab, and select Invite new member.
  2. Enter the recipient's email address to generate and send an invitation.
  3. The invited user receives an email containing an invitation code, which they can enter via the Join... option in Casambi Pro (available on both Windows and iOS) to access the project.

Learn more about sharing a project in the Casambi Pro User Guide.

Can I commission devices using a Windows PC?

No. Commissioning with Casambi Pro for Windows is not currently supported.

On-site pairing and unpairing of physical Bluetooth devices must be performed using the iOS (iPad/iPhone) version.

How do you determine how many networks are needed for a project?

A single Casambi Evolution network can accommodate up to 250 devices, though the practical maximum depends on the selected network mode and site traffic.

When planning your project in Casambi Pro:

  1. Estimate device count: Add the estimated number of luminaires to each luminaire group. Combining this with the total count of controllers (switches, sensors) yields the overall device total.
  2. Account for physical layout: Divide devices into networks based on physical boundaries (floors or separate tenant spaces) rather than just filling networks to capacity.
  3. Select network modes: Match your network boundaries to the optimal network mode for each zone:
Network ModeSpeedDescription
Better performance2 Mbit/sOptimized for larger indoor networks with higher data traffic. Features a shorter communication range than Balanced mode (up to 250 nodes)(recommended max 200 nodes).
Balanced1 Mbit/sOptimized for small-to-midsize indoor networks with moderate traffic (recommended max 125 nodes).
Long Range0.5 Mbit/sOptimized for small-to-midsize outdoor networks with low traffic (recommended max 60 nodes). Extends communication range; requires long-range-compatible hardware.
note

Even in Better Performance mode, it is recommended to keep the total number of devices below 200 per network. Dividing a large facility into multiple smaller networks (e.g., per floor or wing) improves responsiveness, minimizes Bluetooth mesh traffic, and leaves headroom for future expansions. The Casambi Pro user interface will automatically indicate with colour in the network list if your planned capacity approaches levels that risk network performance.

What are the behaviour options for switch functionality?

Initially a switch will have three behaviour options:

  • Toggle a group on/off
  • Toggle a scene on/off (includes option to prevent dimming by long press on a button)
  • Toggle a network on/off
  • Resume automation (group)
  • Resume automation (network)
Can I duplicate or create a copy of a Casambi Pro project?

Yes, using Casambi Pro for Windows.

To duplicate an open project that has no unsaved changes, select Duplicate Project in the Project Details view. This creates a full copy of the project, including its structures, elements, and configuration settings.

Device Duplication Behavior

Physical paired devices are not copied into the duplicated project:

  • Commissioned networks are not duplicated with their physical hardware links.
  • Controllers (sensors, switches) and connector devices (Casambi Cloud Gateways) are automatically converted into uncommissioned placeholder objects in the new project.

Learn more about duplicating projects in the Casambi Pro User Guide.

Does Casambi Pro support working in offline mode?

Both Casambi Pro for Windows and Casambi Pro for iPad always require an active internet connection to create, open, and synchronize projects.

Is it possible to export documentation from Casambi Pro?

Yes. Casambi Pro for Windows allows you to export comprehensive project reports in PDF and DOCX (Microsoft Word) formats.

Learn more about exporting an installation report in the Casambi Pro User Guide.

Troubleshooting & Common Issues

Why is a paired device not showing in the layout or Project Explorer?

Occasionally, a device pairs to the Bluetooth mesh network, but the project data does not link it properly to the plan—resulting in an unassigned or "ghost" device that does not appear in the floor plan layout or Project Explorer.

To resolve this issue, unpair the device and pair it again:

  1. Open the Nearby Devices list in Casambi Pro for iOS.
  2. Locate the device in the list (use filters, review network details, or use the Identify command to confirm the physical unit).
  3. Tap the device row to open its details view.
  4. Select Unpair to remove the device from the network.
  5. Re-pair the device into the intended group or space.
Why did Casambi Pro on my iOS device shut down abruptly without warning?

In rare cases, Casambi Pro may close unexpectedly if the iOS device runs out of available system memory (RAM). This typically occurs when working on exceptionally large projects or when using older devices with lower RAM capacity.

To minimize memory pressure, avoid importing excessively large floor plan images and ensure background apps are closed.

For recommended hardware specifications, see the Casambi Pro system requirements.
